Painting and Applying the Finishing Touch

The detail on the base is very intricate and we wanted to preserve as much detail as possible.    After literally weeks of grinding with the Dremel, sanding and filling, we have finally reached a point where we are ready to paint the base.  We applied a flat black primer and thought about drybrushing a flat aluminum for highlights but quickly scrapped that idea.

We applied three or four coats of  Rustoleum flat black primer spray enamel after discovering that the Vallejo acrylic was not adhering to the surface of the base.    We followed the primer with a gloss clear coat from Krylon and the overall effect is dramatic.
